During the HERE brief, as I inspired by the Peckham tour. I want to present the concept “HERE” as the position of the social position and interaction. So I set a rule for myself. each morning, the first person say hi to me in the college should do me a portrait with their interpretation on me. And I would do a response towards it.
As part of exploring paper as media, I sewed straight line on the newsprint. Because my interpretation on Karen. As I think she is a straight forward person.
Some incidents happened during the Peckham tour. When we took pictures of the market, a woman was really angry and assumed that we took picture of her and offended her. She kept shouting “Get out of here.” to us and really shocked me as I thought the people are generally nice there. Furthermore, on my way back, I saw a mother and a daughter and the mother appeared grumpy and the daughter was waving at people. The difference between their attitude is interesting.
Primary reference from the 5-yr-old I stay with during Summer. This is a portrait he did for me. Every time I look at him doing it, he always says what he thinks in his mind and draw it out the same time he sketches. He impressed me as how creative the kids can be compare to some grown-ups.Minray kept saying that his style is better than the other style so he ask me to do a portrait of him with his style. By applying his style, I find that kids rather using separated structure (e.g. squares and circles) than making a holistic drawing. With my researches of the master Minray, I made a paper puppet. The reason I made it is that I want to extend the graphic work on to 3D format as exploring the media. Also, the kids creativity reminds me of looking into their inspiration – Toys. The colour are all primary colour on the cloud spectrum to represent the pureness of the children.
